SCRIPTURE READING: 2 KINGS 9: 1-13
FOCUS: “…Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead” (2 Kings 9: 1).
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today. In our Focal Scripture, Elisha
told one of the sons of the prophets to gird up his loins and go to
Ramothgilead for an assignment. Girding up one’s loins in Old Testament
times involved tucking in long robes into a waist girdle in order to
give the feet more freedom to move; it was needed when one needed to
move fast. So, Elisha simply instructed the trainee prophet to get ready to move fast.
A journey was about to be undertaken, and Elisha seemed to say that the journey needed urgency. Something needed to be achieved, and Elisha seemed to say that there was no time to waste. Elisha inferred that speed was needed in the journey.
Friend, God
says, you need speed in your destiny race. Take your decisions with
speed; act fast; take whatever steps you need to take with a sense of
urgency; approach your assignments
with more speed; run towards your achievements; run your race like one
who has no time to waste. If you keep wasting your time in life, be sure
that not everyone is wasting time like you; if you keep procrastinating
the steps you need to take now, you may discover later that you have
missed your best chance to take a good shot; if you approach your
opportunities too slowly, someone else might overtake you and take what
would have been yours.
Running your race with urgency means you need to forgo anything that
can reduce your speed; urgency means you understand that time waits for
no one, but those who use time judiciously will have something to show
for their time. Don’t reduce your speed because of people who see no
need for speed in their own race. Stop procrastinating; act fast, act
with urgency.
Pray With Me: Lord, I choose to run my race with urgency, in Jesus’ name!
